On April 20, 2021, the Ministry of Economy received an official notification from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the French Republic on the acquisition by Ukraine on April 3, 2021, of the status of a full member of the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML).
Ukraine’s accession to the Convention establishing the International Organization of Legislative Metrology was ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on November 5, 2020.
“Ukraine has come a long way in gaining full membership in this organization, namely during the 23 years since 1997, when it was a corresponding member of OIML. The status of a corresponding member hindered the development of the modern metrological system of Ukraine and the possibility of its recognition at the international level, “commented the Minister of Economy, Trade, and Agriculture of Ukraine Ihor Petrashko.
Today, the acquisition of full membership will allow Ukraine to vote in all meetings of the organization and participate in the work of technical committees, development of new documents, as well as make proposals to the Strategy of the organization.
Ukraine will have the opportunity to participate in the OIML certification system. Certificates are recognized by all member states of the organization, in particular, EU member states, countries of North and South America, Africa, and Asia.
“Full membership will allow national manufacturers of measuring instruments to supply their products to the markets of member states of the organization without additional procedures for their evaluation. In addition, Ukraine’s acquisition of OIML membership is important for the implementation of the provisions of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, as well as a significant step towards the conclusion of “industrial visa-free travel”, – said the Minister.
